APRIL 14, 2016 Lecture/Demonstration: Haitian Traditional Drumming and its connection to Cuba by Daniel "Brav" Brevil Haitian traditional drumming shares many organizing principles with other African-based forms of music. Daniel will choose examples from the repertoire that illustrate how melody can carry information: to organize a line that the lead drummer can develop, to call changes in the dance, to ask for a particular step, or as language that mimics speech or the lyrics of a Kreyol song. Melody can come from one drum, but can also be spread among as many as 4 players. Hearing how Daniel organizes the music will help you understand similarities between Cuban Haitian traditional drumming of music you may familiar with. Museum of the African Diaspora; 685 Mission St, SF; 7pm. $10 online, $15 door Get your tickets NOW! http://cc2016lecture.brownpapertickets.com/ |

UPLIFT AYITI!"...a Community partnering initiative" Congo SQ West, went into immediate launch, locally & nationally, plugged-in and partnered, keeping our radars open with the primary goal in tact- provide direct assistance to our families/organizations affected! Alison Smith of New Orleans offered her efforts "to help us locate Daniel", while serving at Port-au-Prince's General Hospital. Initiative leader, R. Calloway tenaciously worked with "Rara's" leader P. Jefferson to guide and report information with a focused effort to facilitate the connection between Daniel & Alison - the wee hours of January 23, 2010 marked that landmark encounter. With gratitude and inspiration Congo SQ West salutes Daniel Brevil and his family for their faith and courage! We remain committed, join us in our efforts: 510.464-3025 For newsletter updates email: [email protected] |
