the "brav" update ~THE RETURN! march 15th 2010

Drumming and teaching for over 25 years, Daniel "Brav" Brevil has solidly built a reputation as one of Haiti’s finest dance accompanists. He is also an accomplished Drum teacher, leading classes and workshops for youth and adults worldwide. He exemplifies a unique insight into the relationship between dance and drum, which informs his compositions, arrangements, performances, and teachings. Last year, Mr. Brevil relocated to the Bay Area, also serving as Musical Director for Rara Tou Limen Haitian Dance Company.  As the world has been rocked by the  historical Earthquake in Haiti, it was a recent visit home that his reality shifted as well, surviving the quake -after his family home was destroyed,  he tenaciously navigated relocation efforts for his family, while his indomitable spirit transcended into community leadership, bringing much needed medical attention and relief to his area of Carrefour Feuilles and Haiti...

Mr. Brevil safely returned to the United States reuniting with Family, Rara Tou Limen and Bay Area Community. With determination and fervor Mr. Brevil continues to raise awareness sharing real-life accounts of surviving the Quake and on-the ground community initiatives  through speaking engagements, panel discussions, and other shared works. Through ongoing efforts initiated by his Family in Haiti: Brevil Family & A.C.H. (Action pour la Croissance Humaine) - he maintains dedication to provide much needed assistance to his community of Carrefour Feuilles, a district of Port Au Prince, Haiti.

LIFT
AYITI!"...a Community partnering initiative"
     Congo SQ West
, went into immediate launch, locally & nationally, plugged-in and partnered, keeping our radars open with the primary goal in tact- provide direct assistance to our families/organizations affected!

Alison Smith of New Orleans offered her efforts "to help us locate Daniel", while serving at Port-au-Prince's General Hospital. Initiative leader, R. Calloway tenaciously worked with "Rara's" leader P. Jefferson to guide and report information with a focused effort to facilitate the connection between Daniel & Alison - the wee hours of January 23, 2010 marked that landmark encounter.
With gratitude and inspiration Congo SQ West salutes Daniel Brevil and his family for their faith and courage!
